MK2OC on Facebook...

Postby bacardincoke » Thu Mar 19, 2020 7:30 pm

Never had an interest in Facebook or the likes.

I did create an account last year (solely to access a BMW page), only to have it deleted days later for being fake and haven't bothered since.

I'm guessing there's probably more activity on there than the old fashioned forums or am I not missing very much?

There’s lots of activity but quantity isn’t always quality and less sense of community you don’t get to know people so well plus you get the same ‘what should I use to black my bumper’ question every few day

But the truth is forums are struggling and Facebook has killed them. Even the most of the admins and mods haven’t visited this forum in months/years. Look up the members section it’s shows last logged on date time

You just don’t get the documented threads on Facebook, instead you get a discussion that even if valuable is lost off the bottom of the page next day.

Give it a go and see what you think.

The parts page is quite useful though.

There are still a few visitors , people visit but don’t post much... FB will drive you mad, same questions over and over and not a lot of quality..

Sort of confirms what I suspected... not being down on it, but it's not for me, think I'll just stick to the real thing.

I'm still hoping that the Facebook group bubble will bust and forums will have their day again.

There's just no longevity on Facebook

It's good that there's the choice... Facebook seems to cater for a different type of user than a forum does so everybody wins.

As said above forums have some strong advantages, just depends what interests you more I suppose.

Never had a FB account, probably miss out on few things but then don't have to put up with load of crap as well.

Like anything on the internet, Facebook is a useful tool, if used correctly.
There are some pretty good filters on there, I find it very handy for the weird and wonderful parts.
Last month I managed to lay my hands on some audioscape door pods and and A/C switch for an upcoming project on the 3.2

Forums are much better, more info and not just people craving attention every so many hours!

I try to spend time on both and moving info across, not always doable, but I try :)

I haven’t been on much recently because I moved the Mk2 on to a new owner few months ago after over twenty years and nearly 200,000 miles... not because I’m on Facebook. I agree that forums are much better, when FB pages take over from a forum it’s always worse, thing is Facebook pages are easier to set up and less work to maintain than forums. I’m not registered on FB and won’t be.
