Removing thermo w/ Powersteering

Postby larrytmk2 » Mon Feb 11, 2019 9:10 am

hi guys,

so i set about changing a few bits on the cooling system of the new car, fan switch and thermo was a must.. however i cant actually get to the bolts for the thermostat housing because this cars got powersteering and theres hoses and clamps and brackets in the way.

has anyone else experienced this and if so, how did you get to it?

thanks
Laurence

I can't recall there being an issue. Did the thermostat on mine ages back. From memory, yes there's a bit of stuff in the way, you do need to remove the alternator, alternator mount and drop the PAS pump out of the way but it's not a big deal.

Make sure you replace the thermostat housing when you do the thermostat. They're plastic and tend to warp so never go back on well, treat it as a single use item I think they're less than a tenner. And for the sake of £30 (or there abouts I'm sure) it might be worth sticking a new water pump on there while you're at is.

thanks eddy, when i was looking at it, i did think i might have to drop the alternator and pas pump out. it makes sense to do it now whilst everythings apart and save having to go back and do it after ive put it all back together!

thanks again
