Rear suspension

Postby AWmk2cl » Wed Oct 16, 2019 7:38 pm

Hi everyone, had a knocking/rattle coming from the rear shock top mounts, I knew the old shocks were knackered so I bought new ones, I've also changed the top mounts for new, the spring plates are not rotten, put it all back together making sure everything is as it should be, the knocking is still there, sounds worse at slow speeds.

Any ideas ???
Any help is much appreciated.

Back box on the rear beam is common especially if you’re lowered a bit. Check your exhaust rubbers and hanging brackets.

Cheers mate, it was doing this after I lowered it and it was a heavy knock, i sorted that one out.
This is more of a rattle as if the strut tops are dancing around in there ? Sounds worse coming from drivers side.

Ah Ok, thought it was worth considering but if you've already sorted that on onto the next idea.
If it's not the shocks/mounts, then the only other thing in that area would be the filler neck bracket. Not sure if that would be audible, they rot out giving the screw nothing to hold onto so there could be something jiggling around int he rear turret that would sound like it was from the shock area.
Good luck, hope you sort it.

Hi, it wasnt the filler neck bracket so the search continues, definitely worse on the drivers side, it doesn't affect the handling, tho it's got less guts than a mobility scooter so doubt that will become a problem lol

If I ever find out what it is I'll post it up !!!
Thanks again for the help.

Are the parcel shelf supports all screwed down properly?
Mine use to squeak a bit.
