Mk2 Golf OC National Meet – 11th August 2013

As seen in Performance VW Magazine earlier in the year.

On the 11th August 2013 the Mk2 Golf Owners Club held their 5th annual meet at Stoke Prior Sports and Country Club.  With an increasing member base and some rather immaculate looking MK2 Golfs on display, the club continues the represent and support enthusiasts and owners.  Every year this annual gathering attracts more and more like minded people, with members as far away as the Isle of Man, Scotland and even Germany.  Being just off Junction 5 of the M5, this event was well thought out in terms of location and accessibility.

Although Sunday was the main show day, which included numerous show and shine events, proceedings for some started as early as Friday, as those hard core enthusiasts embarked on a weekend of camping, BBQs, banter and all things VW.  With the club house providing excellent facilities throughout the weekend, this is certainly is an event to attend.

This year’s annual meet was sponsored by Typ19, who provided some rather nice looking show and shine trophies for each of the 4 categories.    Also in attendance were VW Heritage, GSF and numerous other traders.  The weather for the show was absolutely perfect, providing members amble time to inspect all the cars on show and complete their voting forms.  This year categories were: Best Rallye/G60, Best MK2 Golf GTI, Best Daily, Best Mk2 non-GTI and Best other VAG.

Once again Mark Heyer’s stunning low mileage Type 19 early GTI in Alpine white provided inspiration for many, drawing lots of attention and despite stiff competition winning the OEM class.  Everything about this car is factory standard, with the underneath as spotless as the rest of the car.  Shane Kimming’s (of Colour Concept Bodyshop) pearl grey GTI, which now boast a 1.8T conversion, pushing out over 300bhp, showed just what can be accomplished in the ultimate built-not-bought, winning ‘best GTI’. Bobby Regan’s Edition one G60, a rather rare non-sunroof model with factory aircon stole best G60; Sam Stirrup very tasteful 1600 driver won best non GTI and El Russell’s silver-grey Driver ‘best daily’.  Aside from all the MK2 goodness, best non-mk2 went to a rather well know and immaculate black Mk1 Golf GTI owned by Yomp.

The guys of the MK2OC will be holding this year’s Annual meet on Sunday the 10th August, once again at Stoke Prior Sports and Country Club, B60 4AL.  If you own a MK2 Golf or Jetta, or are enthusiastic about them, this is a must.  Please go to their website for further details: www.vwgolfmk2.co.uk/shop/national-meet-tickets-2014/.
