iam having problems to seal my sump up.
the gasket i got is a bit like paper is this the right one or should it be a cork gasket for it as i cant seem to stop it leaking and have used 5 gaskets with a tube of sealent.
ive cleaned up the bottom of the block and sump so its all nice and clean.
its doing my head can you help please or throw some light on the matter of what it could be or what could be cause it not to seal

Mate Im having exactly the same problem! Its a nightmare and Im loosing most of the oil in a fortnight!

I used new gasket and black instant sump gasket sealant as its the best / proper stuff....still leaks! I too am pulling my hair out. seems to leak from the gearbox end and from a couple of the bolts at front and back.

Maybe the sump should be welded on!!!!

Maybe time to buy a new sump? might be bent or needs both sides skimmed to get it 100% flat again.

some cheaper steel pressed sumps are prone to leaking through poor manufacturing quality, giving a poor sealing face hence the leaking

Fred has a brand new sump.. well it arrived earlier today so i think he fitted it.

my thoughts is that there is a blocked breather as it must be putting a fair bit of pressure on the bottom end to keep leaking . that or the oil leak is higher up the block an leaking down to the sump.

its the 1st thing i done was to check the oil breather and its clear unless i have missed one but ive check the one on the rocker cover and blasted it out with a air line and its fine.
it seems to come out more when you give it a good hard boot and take it up to the top revs.
the leak not that bad as ive done about 180 miles and it has not realy showed on the stick and i know the bottom of the car will never rott but you can smell it some times.
i wonder if iam over filling it like the dip sick not right on it and its give me a wrong read out.
or may be the oil pump as its brand new is to strong and making pressure round the block.
or its just being a git and not a gti and dont wanna seal.
i dont know and its doing my head so i will try new sump and seal number 7 if that dont work then i think its back to the drawing board and think again.
still waiting for the new sump and iam waiing on a baffel plate witch has a sump seal on it.
oil leak or not its still going to dub show on the 14 march.
