Hello There,
I recently bought a 1.3 Ryder, The release bearing is on its way out so thought I might as well replace the whole clutch. Is it worth taking it to Mr. Clutch to do a replacement with a 20k or 2 yr warranty for 135 or how hard is it to sort it out myself?
Thanks in advance. |

I think that's pretty reasonable! I'd go with that rather than trying yourself. The clutch will be about £60 so you'll only paying about £65 labour. Plus you have the safe knowledge it's under warranty! |

thanks for the reply, I can't seeing it being too much effort for them, it's only a 1.3, there is plenty of room in the to work with. |

the release bearing can be changed without removing the gearbox itself and can be changed in about 30mins at a guess, and may not even be changed as part of a clutch removal and change, however 135 is a reasonable price otherwise |

everywhere I've read it mentions removing the box. Do you know where I'd find a guide or what I'd need to do to change the release bearing? |

i oould possibly be wrong, im writing on my experience with 020 box as fitted to the mk2 golfs and the like... part shown below

all you have to do is remove the rear section of the housing nd change the part shown above, it operates a long rob through the gearbox to release the clutch |

Cheers for the info. I've got the 5 speed box in, I'm not sure if this is the original box that it came with when it was made. Do you know how I'd figure out if I have a 020 box? |

You should find the gearbox code on the underside of the bellhousing or it might be written on the inside of the cover of your service manual. |

Be wary of mr clutch kev as they are quite prone I have heard to giving refurbished parts and charging for new did it for me on one of my old motors had clutch for 5 months and it shattered completely they did replace it under warranty but there's no such luck on the replacement part.was a while ago but just incase |

I've decided to buy the clutch kit myself and then get it fitted at a local garage, they've quoted me 120 for labour.
What clutch kit would you recommend? |
