one of my valve cover bolts snapped in the camshaft cap thing under the valve cover
so i got a replacement part went to go torque it down and the threaded rod that the nut goes on snapped off with the nut on it
is it possible u can replace this bit and rethread a new rod in at all or would u need a whole new cylinder head |

you can remove the cam cap studs.
what i'm wondering is how the hell did you snap it ?
they have to be torqued down to specic tightness and it's not that tight, over torque them and it can force the cap to distort and bugger up the clearance between bearing and cam. that normaly results in quite a mess |

so you can wind the threaded stud out then
and i torqued it down 2 6 newton meters plus quarter turn ussual u can feel the tention built through the spanner or ratchet but this had nothing and just come off |

Not 100% sure but I thought bearing caps were matched to the head. |

thats still servicable.
go to a machene shop and wave it and them and ask for help, they'll find a way of fixing it, as a new head for 1 cam cap is not funny |

The torque settings for the bearing camshaft nut is only 20 Nm / 15 lbf ft. Once this setting is reached, they should not be turned any further!
They should also be fitted in a certain order, the cambelt end is no.1.
Fit cap 2 and 4, tightening the nuts in a diagonal pattern till the camshaft is in place.
Then fit the others, make sure they are all the right way round, with marks towards the drive pulley.
Tighten all the caps down in a diagonal pattern to 20 Nm. |

Use a tool called a Easiout to remove the damaged bolt then if required retap the thread using a thread tool or drill and use a Helicoil kit |

How many you got ??
I had my cam cover off yesterday and thought that aswell !!
theres one lobe that looks like it should have one and doesnt, it also doesnt have the threads or holes for a stud to go tho so i kinda guessed its how they are |

Yeah, that's how they are on the hydro follower types.
Older shimmed cam followers have the no4 bearing, later hydro ones don't.. for some reason. |
