Mk2 Golf Chat / Headlamp adjuster screws
Hi all,
Both my inner Driving Lights  on my GTi have become loose, and it appears the adjuster screws have broke.
Upon looking on Ebay,I can find replacement Headlamp adjusters, but not one specifically for the Driving lights.
Question is,will they fit?
Cheers!

Suspension & Steering / Car has groaning noise when turning left.
Hi,Everyone,
1988 5dr 8v Gti.No Power Steering.
Car drives fine. However, when I turn to the left, there is an audible groaning noise, and slight vibration, coming from the front,I think.
Have had both front CV Joint Assemblies replaced, but it still does it.Turning right is fine.
Any ideas what could be causing it-is it the tyres,or something else?
Thanks in advance.

Mk2 Golf Chat / Re: Subframe hitting gearbox
No pictures, unfortunately, and only noticed a slight groan when parking on fulll left-hand lock.No bangs etc.
Thought a CV boot had leaked or something.
It's just a bit strange that the garage didn't want to charge me anything, when they had obviously spent time on it!

Mk2 Golf Chat / Subframe hitting gearbox
Hi guys,Bit of a strange one,this!
I had a Garage change a corroded front subframe Track Control arm on my 8v recently.
Took the car back in for some more work today, and the Garage said that they found the Control arm that they had replaced a few weeks previously was contacting with the gearbox.
They managed to move the components around a little so as to remedy the contact, but they wouldn't take any money, saying to drive it over Christmas, and to take it back if there were any problems.
The question is,could the contact between the arm and the gearbox cause any expensive damage to the gearbox casing?
Cheers.

Mk2 Golf Chat / Re: Running Issues
Thanks for that,Eddypeck!
I've already changed the thermostadt.
I think that the temperature guage doesn't move at all, until it suddenly decides to get to it's usual running position within a minute after a few miles running, even though I can feel the car warming up as usual.
I feel that there must be a damp,or loose connection that somehow rectifies itself as the car is warmed up on a run.
I thought the windscreen wiper arm would be hard to get,so I've smothered it in ACF 50 for now, and, like you say,am going to rub it down and repaint at some point.
Cheers!

Mk2 Golf Chat / Running Issues
Had my '87 8v for 4 months, and it's only let me down once (faulty battery earth!).
However,I've a couple of minor issues ,and could do with a bit of advice.
One is my temperature guage has just started not to move from cold for several miles, when it then climbs up to it's normal position within a minute. The car runs fine.Is the sender damp,or something, drying out with the heat of the engine?
My other question is I have a slightly corroded wiper arm.I tried to source a replacement online, but ,being the left-hand drive variety,I couldn't find any.
Does anyone stock them?
Cheers!

Mk2 Golf Chat / Where do you keep your cars-inside,or out?
Hi guys,
Fairly early into my Mk 2  ownership, and with Autumn now here, and just wondering, does everybody keep their cars in a garage,or are some, like me,forced to keep them outside, and,if so,will it be ok,so long as I keep it clean?
Cheers.

Mk2 Golf Chat / Gap in door trim
Hi everyone,
A bit of a Newbie question here.
On the five door model, should there be a bit of a gap at the bottom of the trim  ('scraper'?) surrounding the window,as both my doors appear to have one?
Wouldn't rain etc drain into the door panels through these holes?
Or should they be tight;are there some kind of clip missing?
Thanks.

Mk2 Golf Chat / Re: Swage line
Thanks-so you're saying that black isn't correct, and the grey swage I have now on a Silver-grey Golf is actually correct?
Now I'm worried!
The guy at the Bodyshop was adamant that black was the correct colour, and said that he used to work for the Main Dealer back when these cars were sold!
Makes me lose confidence in them a bit, really!

Mk2 Golf Chat / Swage line
Hi Guys,
Just about to have some bodywork done on my grey '87 early-type 5 door.
It currently has a light grey swage line at waist level, and the Bodyshop say that it should be black, and have quoted between £50-100 to replace it.
Are they correct in this?

Mk2 Golf Chat / Basic Maintenance
Hi Folks,
Having recently bought an '87 5 8v door, and already having a few jobs done to it,I was thinking what 4 or 5 things do I need to look out for most at risk of failing?
Also,I'd like some practicality to the car,so what maximum distance would anybody undertake that the cars are capable of doing, without breaking down.(I'm scared of Smart Motorways, particularly!).

Mk2 Golf Chat / Re: Rusting front scuttle panel
Thanks for that,Eddypeck! I need a new windscreen anyway,as mine has a chip in it.
The bubbling isn't too bad-a couple of bubbles of about 2-3 mm,amd one area of about 2cm.
So I'd better get cracking and get it sorted ASAP, before it gets any worse!
I've had one quote of £700 (without a windscreen replacement factored-in),and I'm gonna get another.
Cheers.

Mk2 Golf Chat / Rusting front scuttle panel
Just watched a  comprehensive Buyer's Guide on You Tube, that says a rusting front scuttle on the Mk2 is a walk away item, because it is a major strutural repair.
Is this true,as mine has a little bubbling up,which I thought wasn't major?!
