how do you tackle the common problem of a loose side molding trim on the drivers door ?
in one case we bolted it on, but this would make it necessary to get under the famous doorfoil, just for removing it (and perhaps threading possible rust).
i bought new pins and grommets, but they do not grab tight enough:
please also let me know if there are any existing threads about the issue.
edit: do you see the image ? at times it says not found.
in the jetta, i can her the vacuum pump, but it does turn off late and the passenger side as well as the trunk remains closed.
even by hand i can not open the trunk and, since it is separated by a welded steel plate, i have no idea how to access it now, which would be very funny, if i had perishable goods in there.
not having driven a golf 1, does not keep me from preferring a golf 2.
but with the golf 3, they might have lost a certain edginess for sure and maybe there are other points, some people would have liked to be different.
after reading the new mini thread of @Eddypeck, i thought about what it would be from scratch.
cause of the regulations, a new car would have to have abs and an airbag, but they would still allow us to have combustion engines for a while, which might be fortunate, since an electric car could be a somewhat different concept.
would it be possible to even further reduce the electronics of the mk2 ecu to analog or mechanical parts and still stay within the actual emission limits ?
which modern engines are already there ? is there one which is, easy to maintain, simple and long lasting ?
like with the mk3 gearbox, the shifting could be made more fluent, but the gearbox should still be robust.
regarding the ordering, could there be a kit-car-option ? everything including 3d-models cold be open-source, right ?
in older (ce2) mk2's, there probably are other parts regarding the indicator lever and mechanics. true ?
they feel more flimsy, they do not lock during certain steering wheel positions and the clicking sound, while turning the steering wheel over the point, is comparably loud, sharp and crisp and does certainly hurt some ears.
which parts could be modified or exchanged to make driving more enjoyable, there ?
The flasher is on the front and the steady light on the side. It is powered by 5 mono cells, which makes it rather heavy.
In the new times, a friend has put in LED's, a Li-Ion-Cell and some electronics in between.
Since they do not take as long to light up, one could shorten the flashing by bridging the middle resistor of the 5 you see after opening the case, he figured.
is it, that a brand new mk2 does not have any holes in the license plate mounting plate ?
apparently, the dealer just screws screws in on arbitrary places, which does not have to have a specific distance or to be at a specific height. right ?
now, how to mark the old screw positions on a new license plate ?
are there special rubber frames for placing them behind the rear plate for avoiding the plate scratching the paint ?
even better would be if i would not have to poke holes into the license plates and i do not like those bulky common frames (often with a little advert on the bottom) either.
in the city, the 90hp engine gets 3/4 hot. could it be the waterpump or the thermostat ?
according to carwiki, the pump should be exchanged every 120 000 to 175 000 km.
the previous owner already bought replacement parts, which he gave me with the car.
one on your side did a nice youtube explainer about the water pump exchange. unfortunately, one of his bolts have been braking, but he was able to save it.
can i drive the car with probably slight overheating or is it so bad, that i should immediately go to the shop ? are there hints i should not miss before i start ? how much tension should be ob the pulley after reassembling it all ?
the relay is still clicking, but the wiper-motor stays silent. this seems to be a classic. maybe a broken cable between the trunk-flap and the cars body.
is there anybody who can give me some clues ahead of the repair (how electrically and mechanically testing it, how the disassembling goes and stuff) ?
i'm just a litte uncomfortable about it and want to be sensible enough to investigate early.
the sound is like oily metal hitting. it's boldest if i accelerate from 80 to 90 km/h. then, i can feel it in my seat. it is more silent when i don't accelerate or drive at other speeds.
