Mk2 Golf Chat / Re: Worst bits
Massively heavy steering when manouvreing. I have a Mk3 power steering rack but my son (the owner) won't let me put it on 🙄 Even heavier now it's got a 2l 8v 😂

Exhaust drone! We now have 2.5 inch Dubpower exhaust so it's our own fault. Sound deadening has made a big difference, sound proofing foam yet to go in over the top.

Other than that, what's not to like 👍

Engine & Gearbox / Re: Speedo Drive
If it goes in the hole without any resistance or binding and sits with the bolt hole in the right place then that's it really.

Mk2 Parts for Sale & Breaking / SOLD 1.3 engine and gearbox whole or breaking
Now that we have transplanted an AGG engine and box into our MK2 we have the old engine and box for sale. Everything is there except the carburettor (for sale separately).
Let me know if you are interested in the whole thing or if there is enough interest in different parts I will break it.
To comply with selling rules the whole thing would be £150 collected.

Have a look here, there are a lot of questions answered which will be applicable to you.

Mk2 Golf Chat / Re: Mk3 donor car
When I was researching this I found that the MK4 was  a significant more hassle than MK3 to transplant. But, as above, if it is a cabrio then it should be the same as the MK3.

Mk2 Golf Chat / Re: Mk3 donor car
We have just done this in the last month. We bought a 1997 MK3 2.0 agg GTi for 900 and used the engine, gearbox, front subframe, tank and all associated looms on my sons MK2 (was 1.3). I stripped everything useful off the car and have sold about £500 worth. I still have another £200 or so to make back. Well worth doing.

I forgot about the fuel tank, but yes that's usable. And I believe using a mk4 in tank fuel pump allows you to do away with the under car pump. Would need confirming I'm not 100%.

MK3 is intank fuel pump.

Mk2 Golf Chat / Re: Cam belt
Just one of those jobs I’m nervous about getting wrong. Or getting stuck, as in not being able to undo something I suppose.

I’ve managed a lot over recent years and got more and more adventurous so I think I just need to do it and get over it
I have just done this on a MK3 and felt the same as you about it. It was much easier than I expected. Just go slow and double check as you go. Just as PWaddy says above. The only issue I had was one of the crank pulley bolts was so tight the Allen insert rounded off. Had to hammer a spline bit in and that worked thankfully. Those crank pulley bolts aren't supposed to be that tight!

Mk2 Golf Chat / Re: Mk2 golf 1.3 1987 steering wheel spline??
My mechanic told me that the horn is working and the fault is in the steering wheel and I need a new one or at least new internals to get the horn to work but I thought for me it might just be more straight forward to get a whole whee then sell the not working one

Hi don't know what the spline should be Why do you think you need a new wheel?
scs
Take your wheel off and I'm sure the solution will be obvious. They are very simple things.
