Members' Cars / Re: My very ambitious project mk2
I have a similar issue with non-starting. Often very slow to turn over, sometimes fine! Always does start though (so far). I've changed the battery, and checked all the earths/feeds but I had assumed my battery terminals were ok. They look very similar to yours though! Perhaps I should invest in some new terminals too.....

Mk2 Golf Chat / Re: Is it just me ??
Perhaps the "attraction" of Facebook is wearing off! I'm guilty of this though - use FB on a daily basis. See the same questions and answers and abuse day after day and don't visit the forums anywhere near as much as I did.  I honestly would love to see the downfall of many social media sites. They're just so toxic for mental well being.

Mk2 Golf Chat / Re: Prices of everything
I'm in exactly the same scenario Eddy - Cars  "uncommon" ly used now I work from home. I'm local to Bristol too, but thankfully not too close that I have to drive in often. The bus is still the best option for me and Bristol. It annoys me what has increased in price with no element of actual inflation like you said - parts people already have. There's a lot of people including the energy companies profiteering out of this situation and it gets harder by the day to justify these "luxuries"

Mk2 Parts Wanted / Re: Sill clips that attach the plastic sill cover over the carpet
So sorry - didn't see the reply or get a notification!

I'm not sure how many I need but I have none at all on the one side, so the trim just flaps around and hits the passengers...

I think there's holes for four or five - but I'd be grateful for any anyone could offer!

Many thanks for replying and sorry about not seeing this!

Mk2 Parts Wanted / Re: Vw Golf
Hi - 88 and 89 are switch over years. You MAY have the newer version  (but still CE1) or you may have the older version. It's worth getting the part number off yours if possible. If it's the 88/89 version on CE1 needed they're VERY difficult to source (I have this one too and had this issue) but you can fit the more common older one - but it'll not match your stalks. CE2 (hazard switch on steering column and not on dash) then non-genuine ones are much more common and easier to source. Sadly these more common ones will NOT work on a CE1 car easily.

Engine & Gearbox / Re: 2nd gear problem
It could be it needs adjustment - mine does too at the moment. I did have no 1st and third, adjusted it and now have 1, 3 and 5th but no 2nd and 4th! :) I used this tool (https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/154296905132?hash=item23eccfedac:g:RYQAAOSwvSBaYPDN) but it really DOES need two people to do this. One to loosen off but two to tighten back up. One holding the gearstick and tool in place and one to tighten the linkage collar back up again. I tried to do it on my own - without success! Also note the tool goes on both ways but only one way is correct (see their picture in the auction)
