It does sound very much like a vacuum issue. Try (carefully) spraying a little clutch/brake cleaner over the vacuum lines while running and see if the idle picks up.
As the title suggest I have a weird issue where if I press the brake on my carb auto 1.8 during the Dow press it directly causes the idle to drop a bit. Once fully depressed idle rises again.
I’m thinking two things - electrical draw on alternator ?? Or vacuum leak on brake servo being exposed during the down press.
I’m guessing it’s not normal and it only drops by 100rpm but thought you lot might know!
Not aware of any replica ones. Could try Matt Palmer if Mk2 spares. He’s a club sponsor.
Good console used can fetch Good money. Settled for satin black paint for my rear vw badge.
There’s also a guy on eBay that does chrome vinyl lettering to recondition worn out ones. Results are quite good I’m led to believe.
Side note: your user name... where are you? There’s a fair few active members in Bristol and the south west. And we used to run monthly Bristol meets before Covid.
Hey mate, yes I am based in central Bristol, Kingsdown. Who else is about? I'd be up for a meet outdoors somewhere..
My MK2 has some awfully low and stiff coil overs currently. I want to change them back to the stock set up.
I have nothing though as previous owner binned old ones, so I'm wondering what do I need to buy to make a complete suspension piece? So far I've got front and rear dampers, and springs. I don't know the vocab for all the other little bits like top hats etc
Ah mate this is priceless thank you. Glad to see it can be done without removing the dash! Will buy some adhesive foam and get it sorted!!
When I look inside the dash from the radio hole, I can see this sort of white sock thing on one of the pipes going to dash vent. Do you think this was some previous attempt to keep the foam from blowing out?
Had this issue recently after replacing my sensor. Turned out there are two sensors , one is rated for higher pressure (white). Could be your issue as don’t think ECP etc differentiate
If the foam have come off of the direction flaps, as is common the air flow will be dispersed. You won’t get very good heat from it as it can’t separate from cold air. That could be the issue, but if it gets hot and you can control where the air comes from then you maybe need a new fan.
Okay nice I will check these flaps because I did notice it was difficult to get any sort of strong flow from any vent. How can I check these?
Hoping someone can help us. I’ve got a 1.8 mk2 auto and the fan fuse was blowing. So I replaced the fan and it now works but is just very weak? My resistor pack is clearly gone because setting 1-3 don’t work, but I don’t think that should effect setting 4?
Anyone else had it where the blower fan barely blows?
Have also check with thin paper and it is definitely blowing not sucking air in.
