Title: Refit power steering pump Help!
Post by: Merlin on July 14, 2024, 07:31:19 AM
Hi all,
I'm new here, picked up a 1991 8v a few weeks ago and now doing some routine maintenance.

I'm having problems refitting the power steering pump.  I took out the bolts to it to replace the belt, now can't get it in position to put bolts back in. Is there a 'knack' to this?

Do I bolt it up first then put belt on, or belt then bolt?

I did this a couple of years ago I recall it was difficult the belt does not have a lot of adjustment. I recall fitting the belt then bolting on the pump.

I loosened the pump such that the flange inserted in the waterpump pulley. You could also maybe remove a pulley. There doesn't seem to be much adjustment left tho.
To tension I used a crowbar since the original adjuster is cr4p!
