Hi,
Sorry if this has already been covered before but I am struggling to find any specific information on an issue I am experiencing with my Golf.
A few weeks ago I purchased 1990 Golf mk2 gti 16v. The mfa screen and rev counter did not work. Mfa had bled so I purchased replacement Lcd and fitted without any issue. Unfortunately MFA still does not work. Same with rev counter.
It has a CE2 instrument cluster.
Can anyone suggest what the issue may be?
Thanks.
Hi, I have the same problem on my 8V, do you have the instrument cluster made by VDO?
Hi,
Yes it is a VDO unit.
Hoping someone can help....
Thanks.
Where you located, as i have a spare ce2 set of clocks, as thats what id check next as it be easy to do etc.
#when you say mfa does'nt work, do you mean does'nt flick threw the options ? or does'nt display
Rev counter side of things could be a number of reasons, from wiring not connected to coil, to broken wire from coil to clocks, fuse even ?
But depending on the mfa issue. if not displaying and rev counter not working, could be your clocks are just failing
Hi,
I'm based in Watford area.
There's no mfa display whatsoever (completely blank) or rev counter.
My initial thought was perhaps the instrument cluster as I checked fuses which were all OK.
Thanks.
does the blue print on them look ok, not actually sure what its called its a circuit board but not if that makes sense
Hi,
Yes circuit board all appears to be fine.
Thx
Are you sure you fitted the new screen correctly? if it showed something before replacement it could just need the screen fitting looking at. The rev counter might just be shot and a pure coincidence that it does not work.
Hi,
MFA never worked before I changed the screen. Neither did the rev counter.
Yes I fitted the screen correctly.
multi meter time or see if you can source some clocks to try i guess
One thing to check, there are a couple of Earth points that go to the back of the rocker cover bolt on the right hand side (at least there was on 8v) and these are related to the clocks, I'm sure the MFA and Rev counter use them so that might be worth checking
