Title: N/S Head Lamp rear cover
Post by: PhilC on August 30, 2021, 12:31:15 AM
Hi all, my 1991 16v has a cover over the O/S headlight rear where the air box feed comes from, my question is should the N/S have anything apart from the rubber boot that covers the rear of the bulb?

My ‘89 GTi 8V does not have a cover for n/s headlight but has one for o/s like you. Mr Haynes does not elude to any such cover in it’s description regarding replacing n/s headlight bulb either.

Hi Phil. I've had mine since it was just over 5 years old and it never had one on the near side.
I assume the casing on the offside was related to the airbox inlet which sits directly behind the offside light.

yes the cover is just airbox side. I belive it acts as a duct to funnel air into the airbox from the grill and around the light. Mine has a tube into the duct/cover from the grill, not sure if that's original ot been added by an owner to funnel additional front of car cold air.
