Title: Polybush Top Mounts
Post by: sie1970 on November 15, 2020, 12:01:01 PM
Anyone using Polybush top mounts.

Been running G60 ones for a few years with standard struts and lowered springs, but now getting a lot of play when the car is jacked up, the MOT man commented on this a few months ago.

Looking for a more long term upgrade.

Many thanks,

Simon.

Had Bonrath on my old GTI for years, great bit of kit.

Any idea where you get those from, did a quick search and nothing came up?

Don't think they make them any more.

Powerflex do some https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VW-Golf-MK2-GTI-VR6-G60-Powerflex-Front-Strut-Top-Mounts-Bushes-Free-Bearings-/151641918651

Thanks for that, anyone had good experiences with the Powerflex ones?

Personally id use the oem rubber choice, used poly top mounts on my old 20v, literally changed them back to oem rubber the following weekend, they just put far to much extra vibration through the car.

I was just looking for something that lasts longer, fed up with having to change rubbers every couple of years.

I never found the Bonraths to be crashy to be honest but then it was the only poly bushes I had on the car as you I was constantly replacing the rubber ones, they split and allowed the shock to drop, the Bonrath ones are still on the car as good as new.

Would mk3 OE top mount set up be a better option?

Are MK3 Golf ones a straight swap?

Almost, I think you need to change the top nut as well. Pretty sure it's documented somewhere if not wait till Monkey comes along, he'll be able to confirm.

Yep you to need to change the top spring plate, nut and the bearing too! So a few things to buy.

It's a hexagonal nut so no faffing with that MK2 thingy with the cut-outs.

Take a look see here:

Personally I wouldn't touch Febi these days, crap quality, Lemforder or Meyle https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Pair-OEM-Lemforder-Front-Top-Mounts-Bearings-VW-Mk3-Golf-Sharan-Corrado-VR6/400838980314?hash=item5d53dd72da:g:oJIAAOSwT6pVwcH5

Note that there are 2 sizes of MK3 spring top plate. You need to ensure you get th right one (bigger).
The first ones I got were too small, then I got some the right size but the pressing was a bit rough....
I finally got some from the local VW dealer. I think they were circa £20 each, bought last year.

don't happen to have the part number for the larger ones do you?

I now know they have to be the 105mm ones, but the mind boggles at the shear amount of different ones available.

Wind back to reply#11.
All the details are in the Club GTI post.
1H0412341 is the part number of the spring plates.

B&B on ebay probably sell the other stuff. Found their service to be gr8 with super speedy delivery.

There''s different opinions on whether the car sits higher at the front. Mine was slightly "nose-up" to begin with so I put my eibach springs back on the front. Not sure if I will keep it like that tho!

Yes me too. Put it in eBay and I'm sure they are more expensive than the VW dealers. I put "vr6 front spring top" and just seen these although it doesn't say the diameter which I think needs to be 110mm.

FK 10mm lower (https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FK-10mm-Front-Lowering-Springs-Top-Cap-All-VW-Golf-Mk3-Hatchback-GTi-VR6-16V-94/333589478898?hash=item4dab7b7df2:g:1lsAAMXQvJVRQQQX)

Good luck.
