Good that you found it, but a little sad you didn't find it within this site. I guess Google isn't working in our favour.
We've already got this covered in the knowledge Library with a few additional links to specific models:

Models (https://www.vwgolfmk2.co.uk/clubforum/index.php?topic=385.0)
Specical Editions (https://www.vwgolfmk2.co.uk/clubforum/index.php?topic=37.0)
https://www.vwgolfmk2.co.uk/clubforum/index.php?topic=56.0 (https://www.vwgolfmk2.co.uk/clubforum/index.php?topic=56.0)

I think a lot of the initial info may have come from there.

Cheers for sharing, always like to read this sort of stuff. I love old brochures as well and seeing what the OEM upgrade options were.

So does anyone know anything about the Riviera model?

isn't that a model name of a Mk1 Cabby edition?

Definately Riviera. 1989 Mk2 1.3 poverty spec. I'm unable to get a picture at the moment.   This is assuming no one has stuck decals on it  :o

Sometimes local dealers created their own 'editions'. Wondering where this was first registered, could I take a punt and say Torquay?

There's something nagging at the back of my brain that makes me think I have come across this before though. Or maybe it was just you raising this previously.

I believe Riviera is related to camper van (T2 specifically) conversions. I know there were a number of authorised companies that did conversion, ie. Devon, and Danbury. Perhaps it's something to do with the same company.

Without checking the original registration office would have Exeter.  I get the Riviera  connection. I know there is paperwork but I've not seen it yet. You never know it may have been part of a package or built to order for someone local or as a holiday car. I'll get a picture of the graphics when I can.

So here is the picture. I forgot to do the sides which are a decal and dotty. So is it a model or not?

Never seen that before ... many people added stickers back in the day “special” was a favourite if I recall , there would be more add ons than a sticker if it was an edition

It's not in keeping with the styling of any of the VW specials, but it also isn't quite the 'special', 'turbo', 'luxury' type universal sticker popular in the likes of Charlie Browns Autocentre back in the day.

So as mentioned before, and based on the location of the original purchase I still suspect this was a local dealer 'edition'.

Thanks for sharing, that's very interesting and looking at the side line profile it looks like it's decals specifically made for a Mk2 Golf and not generic universal stickers. Although looking at how it's degraded I'm still not 100% sure it's a factory applied decal so I'm still thinking maybe it was dealer applied.

I keep finding sources of different editions, I recently found a Plus Ultra model that has Gold VW badges. So I'll let you know if I ever manage to uncover anymore info about this.

It it’s South African should have a few differences I believe. Larger fuel tank, and therefore different boot floor. One piece, more luxurious, carpet and the lower dash ( and maybe inside glove box? ) flocked.
