As far as I can make out the a3/mk5 setup uses the same fuel pressure but from current experience I finding the a3/mk5 needs at least 4.5 bar just to drive

Can you get a factory 5 bar regulator to fit in the rail?

Fit the mk5 rail and the use a mk5 gti fuel filter with built in reg to take care of the return?

Found a 5 bar fpr that will drop straight on rail so will try that before I go pulling the motor apart to swap out the rail bit annoying as today when hitting roundabouts the car cut out and then needed to start the car again using the mk3 pump housing and the performance pump I didn’t think I would suffer the starvation on corners etc Strangely at idle I set the fpr to 5 bar and there’s plenty of fuel in the return line going back to tank
So far I def thinking fueling issue so either pump isn’t getting the full voltage at times or pump isn’t strong enough at higher revs to supply enough fuel ??

Ok, silly question time.

You're using a Mk3 pump and tank? Could the pump have come off of the bottom of the tank?

Reason I ask is Paulina had the same issues with the Corrado, cutting out, fuel starvation etc, turned out the pump had come off the bottom of the tank and was floating about.

First thing I checked bud as I wasn’t sure either was fine it seems the basket the pump sits in isn’t getting any fuel in it or at least enough fuel maybe ?
After a few more issues. Starter motor died totally so a new one under warranty was sent out and fitted last night. Along with battery being charged car seems fine at the minute only a couple of weeks then I can hopefullly get her on a dyno and some mapping and code removals Also notes I have a coolant leak from thermostat housing so at weekend i’ll Be pulling the coolant system and double checking everything also finally get the oil pressure switch fitted for the dash cluster. The little light flashing is annoying me now lol

I wonder, are you getting a decent charge off your alternator?
That could have caused all of the running issues, if there isn't enough power to run the pump etc.

This was something I was looking at As before the new starter motor turned up I got her running but she died pretty quickly then clock went to 0000 so knew the battery had died which was weird as there is nothing to drain the battery So new starter motor fitted and battery charged. Perfect car started up first try currently car is actually running nicely this week. The mk5 floor mounted pedal is a bit sensitive so am hoping the mappers can do something about that as if foot is just on pedal to keep the speed when going down hill can feel the car surge it’s very slight but I can feel it

Regards to alternator voltage according to vagcom was 13.2 v which was worrying but a check with a multi meter showed voltage to be 14.2 at idle with 14.3v at the alternator so is within specs. Don’t think my short drives are helping the battery charge much I only do 5 miles to work and 5 miles back lol

I was once told by an auto tech at college that it takes 3 miles to put back into the battery what you take out on a normal no isues start up. So five miles isnt probably the best long term for the battery, bearing in mind the ecu and associated electronic stuff takes a chunk of that capacity, might not be much left after for battery etc.

What amp rating is the alternator ? More amps more left over capacity for charging up and such.
