Bonnet Gap Different Each Side Of Wings

Postby BirdieGTi » Tue Feb 05, 2019 10:13 pm

Hello, I've got a 90' GTi and as the title says the gap on each side of the bonnet it different, it sits very close to the left and leaves a gap on the right. However its fine height wise and aligments along the top towards the windscreen is fine. Any ideas on ajustability?

Cheers in advance! :bout ye:

If the gap along the scuttle edge is straight I would say it's more likely the wings have been removed and replaced at some point than the issue being the bonnet alignment.

Slacken off the 10mm bolts along the top of the wing edges and there should be a bit of movement, enough to allow you to even up the gap.

As a general rule the width of a £1 is quite handy for checking gaps. Slide the coin along the gap, it should move freely without the gap closing up and pinching the coin.

Generally speaking, if you're aligning the bonnet (and assuming the wings are good) you can use the striker on the bonnet to position it.
Think there a couple of 8 or 9mm bolts on the striker plate, just loosen them, move the plate and nip them back up.
