Most 91 gtis had ras, some went for dealer sebrings castellets etc... Try looking through some of the brochures which have optional wheels at the back..

Some here. viewtopic.php?f=91&t=37270

If it's a big bumper, chances are it'll have had 15" BBS RAs.

I may be interested in the Silverstones/teardrops if you sell.

Well after rubjonny advised me to look at sticker again I have realised my mistake.

I looked in the service book and got the codes from the sticker off that.
When I originally did it one of the codes was (I thought) 'SF2' which said 'Alloy wheel CJ5 instead of C3V'.

The code is 8F2 which is for 'Side turn signal lights'!!

So that problem is solved easily enough, my eyes are crap!!! :-)

Now that is sorted I need to know what would of been factory standard wheel for a 1990/91 Big bumper 8v Gti.

Pictures and sizes would be great. Thanks to everyone who responded to my school boy error.

Pretty sure as mentioned previously 15" BBS RA. The only way if would have been different is if the original buyer selected an alternative as an option from the sales brochure. Either way with RAs fitted no one would ever dispute the authenticity so I guess that's your safe bet.

post up the full list of codes, we can tell you. on an 8v I think standard you would have had steel wheels, alloys were an extra?

mine has teardrop alloys specified on the boot sticker though so that could well have been standard for an 8v, since it had no other options at all... pretty sure BBS RA were only standard on the 16v

the other problem is if yours does say steel wheels on the sticker, that doesnt mean thats what it was ordered with, what it could mean is the guy picked out some nice wheels from the accessories catalogue. those would not be factory fit the car would be delivered to the dealer on steels then the nice alloys swapped over, and no record of what they were unless you have all the original bill of sale etc

Would the dealers have the original spec sheet / order form on their systems? I know they hold lots of factory based info but never bothered to ask them about what non build sticker options my car came with.

you could try asking for your birth certificate from VW , details in my link.

if you know the dealer it was bought from there might be some records on your car stashed, but dont hold your breath!

That's my build codes. I tried the original dealer but sadly they have not kept records from pre-computer era.
I think I am going to get the original steel wheels for it. Any body got any pics of what they should be and sizes would be appreciated.
