No dash waning lights. Will not start 1.8 GL

Postby Franktrumpsalot » Sun Apr 14, 2019 1:54 pm

Welded car, with everything unplugged. Now dash lights will not come on. Will not start.
Changed all these:
Battery, ignition module, ignition switch, alternator, starter motor, dash voltage regulator. Fuses not blown. Relays appear ok. Number plate lights work ok and engine cranks normally.
Any help please!!!.
Getting desperate here.

With regard to the dash, there is a groung point under the dash n the driver side, just up from where the the bonnet release would be if it were the passenger side.
They are notorious for issues with grounding. Some of the engine bay earths make their way back there via the fuse box.
If its turning over then its got to be fuel or a duff earth.

I had a similar issue a few years back and in the end had to break out the multimeter and Haynes manual, and chase everything through till I found a break in a wire.

Nothing coming from the ignition switch. So got to replace that and the lock first. Managed to get both parts genuine VW!
