Re: sunroof wont budge
First thing I would do is remove the handle and cover then you can see part of the mechanism.
Can you turn the handle or is jammed.

the handle turns part way but then thats it but its not far enough to even start to open the sunroof.
does the cover just pull off as it feels like its stuck to the headlining

Yes the cover does pull down
Have a look at the pics in this auction, it shows the reverse side so you can see how it's fixed to the roof.

Re: sunroof wont budge
thanks for all of the info,
took the handle off and the trim piece with the light in it swell as the inner sunroof gasket.
bashed it a lot with my hand and still no joy, then i tried to move the handle as suggested whilst banging the sunroof on the outside of the car with my other arm and it moved.........yay!!
the rain channels were then cleaned and are in very good condition and i flushed the tubes out with soapy water and used a small hose to push down the tube and the water comes out of the bottom of the tube right away.....then re assembled it all and happy days.
wind deflector for the sunroof needs a wire brush on it and some rust treatment but overall it was in very good condition.
while i was at it i treated the very small areas that had corrosion to rust killer etc.
cleaned out the channels in the engine bay too then flushed them out.
happy days

Re: sunroof wont budge
I've been using my sunroof a lot lately
yes it's 4 degC outside. But since doing the heating system I like the heater pumping out hot air. It gets right toastie in the cabin - much hotter than the mk5 (I need to look at doing thermostats in that - yes thermostatS there are multiple)
Anyway, there seems to be a bit of condensation int he car, not a lot and I need to track down the cause but for now I like the heater on full to dry it out, but get too hot so open the sunroof - because the windows a stiff and I'm in fear of snapping a winder handle
oh the joys of old cars.
