MFA Replacement - VDO Cluster

Postby Jenkiam » Sun Mar 29, 2020 3:48 pm

I've just spent the last few hours removing the instrument cluster from my 92 GTi to replace the MFD, using a v helpful YouTube video, only to find my cluster is different to that shown in the video!! For a start, there was an additional connection at the back of the cluster, next to the speedo cable & the board itself is a single piece, incorporating rev counter & MFD.
I've had a look at the MFD holder & removed the screws securing it to the main board BUT havent been able to remove it easily & dont have the guts to try any harder!
So, is the LCD screen replaceable in these VDO clusters & if so how is the screen holder removed safely?

...the MFA & the rev counter share a PCB - the white holder does have retaining screws but isnt easily removed & I dont want to force anything obvs!

Yeah, that's the the vid I watched tbh! His MFA was on a separate PCB to the rev counter so came apart easy.
