Title: Gap in door trim
Post by: Beancan on October 13, 2021, 08:14:51 PM
Hi everyone,
A bit of a Newbie question here.
On the five door model, should there be a bit of a gap at the bottom of the trim  ('scraper'?) surrounding the window,as both my doors appear to have one?
Wouldn't rain etc drain into the door panels through these holes?
Or should they be tight;are there some kind of clip missing?
Thanks.

No the trims are notorious for shrinking. Both my 5 doors did it and the oldest one has done it twice, but thats over the 20 odd years I have owned it.

Good news is that Heritage sell replacements that are slightly longer than needed, as they also fit the three door, you just cut them to size.

You can also buy them from Classic VW.
Note the postage cost so make sure you order everything you need at once.
I have renewed all mine. Bought 4 x 3 door and cut them slightly longer and ensured they were fully seated in the corner.
If like me you may find the quarterlight rubber is has shrunk/moved causing a bigger gap.
Spraying the channel with silicone lube makes fitting them much easier.
Also Scotty Kilmer suggests spraying the felt channel with silicone lube too.
