Hi guys,
This may seem like a bone question but could someone clarify the category of petrol that i should be using in my 1991 Golf Driver 1.6. Having just bought the car and with recent changes i would just like to get it right from the outset.
Also grateful if anyone could kindly list any issues that the new fuel might be causing. I have hear that the new fuel might cause erosion issues with the fuel pipes. If so, should i be doing anything (adding additives) to reduce the impact or damage.
Thanks in advance.
Monty
Very few petrol cars run efficiently on anything less than premium fuel. I would be surprised if a Driver would run on E10 without ignition timing adjustments and a change of plugs. Basically you would be downgrading your engine to be less efficient to accommodate a lesser fuel.
What does the sticker on the back of the fuel filler flap say?
You get less mpg on e10 and possibly erosion issues as you say. Personally I would use e5 it costs more but you get more mpg and there is no risk of erosion.
