Title: Mk2 Golf GTI Engine conversion - Looking for a specialist - FAQ's etc
Post by: urboilb on May 16, 2022, 03:42:05 PM
Hi Team

Hope everyone doing well

I am looking to convert my engine in my MK2 gti. Looking for a specialist to do the work. I'm based up north around Huddersfield way. I fancy something like a Vr6 or or G60 conversion.

Does anyone have any information about prices/specialists/etc?

Any help would be appreciated

Cheers

Liam

If I was doing a conversion I reckon I'd do an 1.8T BAM engine with 225bhp bumped up to 250+, lighter and more power than the VR6 and I think cheaper, although I'd love a MK2 with the dirty diesel PD150 bumped to around 190bhp

There's only about 40kgs between a 20v and a VR motor by the time you added the turbo/intercooler into the mix.
Over the years, I've done a fair few conversions, my favorite is the 3.2 I've currently got, best for all round sound, power and delivery, though the 20v I had was great fun too.

Afternoon all. The OP has asked exactly the same question I have been pondering since Feb after getting a mk2 shell and a boat load of bits
Monkey- i have seen your excellent 1.8T conversion guide on here, do you do paid conversions? Where are you based?
Thanks
Chris

Hi Chris,

Thanks, but I'm not a professional and as a result, won't take on work for someone else.
Imagine if I missed something and you had a crash as a result of it.
Not only the potential financial cost, but wouldn't be able to live with myself if someone got hurt.
