Title: Repairing the chasis legs
Post by: ToTheMoon098 on December 26, 2022, 06:08:24 PM
Hey Guys,

This will be my first project car and a fairly big one.

The only thing i’m worried about is the chasis legs have started to rot away and i’m not exactly sure how to fix this?

I’ve seen on ebay there are repair kits but that looks like the panel that goes on top of the chasis not the actual leg.

My old one went there. I suspect at some point in its past the battery had leaked since this was so bad and much worse than other parts of the car. I got a section cut from another car and welded in.

See my blog post from 2014 (https://eddypeck.wordpress.com/2014/01/07/1986-3dr-gti-8v-alpine-white-final-stretch-tue-jan-07-2014-157-pm/)

Although I believe now reproduction repair panels are available for the leg as well as the battery tray on top.
