Morning all,
I’m new to the forum (and paid member of the club as of 10mins ago). I’m off to view and probably buy a MK2 GL on Saturday. It looks in good condition and a bit too good to be true to be honest. Only 60k on the clock. Only issue is an auto box.
My first car was a MK2 Jetta, but that was 24 years ago. Anything obvious I need to look out for?
And if I insure through Peter James do they ask for a membership number? If so how do I get one?
Thanks,
JP
Hi JP
Welcome to the club!
Your number is 1799.
As for things to look for, rust is the big one nowadays!
Check sills, under the wheel arches (especially at the back) and behind/below the rear bumper.
I think there is actually a what to look for thread somewhere on here.
Might be worth having a look around site and see what comes up.
Thanks for the details Monkey.
Hopefully it’ll be in good condition and I can come along to some of the meets.
JP
See if you can get to the National Meet, it's always a good one!
If I buy the car, I’ll make sure I get there. 👍🏻
That car was too good to be true.
It drove great, but big electrical issues. Main problem was rust and that it had sit outside for too long.
So MK2 yet, but thanks for helping.
thats a shame, i must confess, i purchassed abit of a dog, then a good one came up 2 days alter, an brought that an all, say good one, but engine dont go yet. but the shell is second to non that i looked at in the process
If you could all keep your eyes and ears open I’m well keen. Just need the right one. 👍🏻
