Title: Ignition issue
Post by: jenkiam on June 01, 2020, 02:19:42 PM
Recently i've had a situation when starting the GTi where the key turns too far in the ignition & doesnt click back into the 1st position, resulting in the starter motor continuing to run after the engine has actually started. It needs a manual turn back every time.
Before i go buying parts, Is this likely to be a switch or barrel problem?

Thanks in advance

I’d say barrel more likely than switch. Could try some maintenance spray into the barrel And see if that helps.

Is it original, how worn lose is the key?

I would say its the original judging by the key, which is pretty worn too.

Hi I've had the same problem, how did you resolve it Jenkaim?   did you buy a new ignition barrel?

If you remove the electrical switch from the back of the lock assembly does it still stick?
