Title: oil temperature/pressure gauge
Post by: golfmk2_r32 on July 14, 2020, 11:41:19 AM
hi,

ive got a mk3 dash in my golf (was already like that when i brought it) and only really have one place to put in a gauge

thinking of putting in the below, will this be sufficient enough to use?
oil pressure is in psi, whereas ive seen other gauges use bar

mk2 has got a audi tt 3.2 engine in there

thanks

Hi

Yes. You'll be able to use it, but you'll need the correct sender for the gauges.
Also, it's worth knowing that the thread on the oil filter housing, where you need to put the sender is M10x1
More often than not, senders come in different sizes, so you'll need an adaptor, or to spec it when you buy them.

As for Bar vs PSI, you just have to know that there is 14.5 PSI to 1 Bar.

for the oil temperature sender, i've found a m14 oil sump plug adaptor which fits m10 sensor sender so i guess that'll work for the oil temp?

regards the oil pressure, do i need to get a t piece for the sensor in the below pic?

Yeah, that should work for the temp, it might be a couple of degrees less than what is actually in your engine, as it'll be cooled but the air passing under the car. But it should be in the right ball park.

Yes, you'll need an M10x1 T-Piece to get it to work.
So the male end will be M10x1, one of the inputs will be M10x1, (for the existing sensor) and the final one will have to be whatever sender your new gauge needs.

You can get straight and tapered threads.
There's a good chance you have a straight sender and a tapered sump plug.

I had a similar issue, just bought an m10x1 tap and ran it through the hole.
Is there a washer that goes with the sender?

had confirmation from the seller that the bolt has a self sealing tapered thread, hence why the sender will not go all the way through and said its ok to use how it is?

no unfortunately no washer on the sender.
i might use ptfe tape on the sender when putting it through the bolt

Unfortunately, you can't use PTFE tape, as the sender earths through the treads.

I would have thought that if the bolt was tapered, you'd have been able to get it further in.
For the price of a tap, I'd probably tap the bolt and see if that lets you get a few more turns in.
