Title: Fuel saver
Post by: DazH on November 07, 2020, 08:53:30 PM
On with breaking my engine bay down today on my 16v, on the fuel lines is a fuel saver device, is this a standard feature or has this been put on?
I’m no engine guy so I apologise it just doesn’t look pretty

If you’re taking about the kind of thing I think it is it would be an Aftermarket add on, the kind of thing advertised in the back of motoring magazines and promising better performance and/or mpg.

Best to remove it, as 99% of things like that don't work..

1- use better fuel (although i do use morrisons for majority,(but do add redex every other month)
2- clean and service filters more regularly
3-swap for new o rings on injectors- or clean and service carb.
3- don't drive like you stole it

my F plate (88) 16v did a run to cambridge and back in same day for average of 41mpg  that was done the fuel filling method.. brim, drive and rebrim . More than happy with that for 32yr old car.

I was quite impressed with the mpg I got back in the day when I commuted from Sheffield to Nottingham. It was well over 40mpg but not the same as the MFA said.
Not bothered working it out recently since it does so few miles.
