I just had a Teams based interview for a new job (fingers crossed).
The interview was with 2 people. One led most of the questioning then got to a point when he asked his colleague if he had any questions. And this is what I heard next...
"I do, but not job related.
Tell me about your mk2 Golf"
:D
It's listed on my CV as hobbies and interests. At least it shows he read the CV right to the end. No idea if that will help me get the job or not.
Read elsewhere that employers have for quite a while now been actively checking out prospective employees social media / on-line profiles - a friends son fell foul of some indiscreet posts he'd made on a forum long since left... in fairness I wouldn't have had anything to do with him either, based on what he'd written!
I've often been involved in recruiting at my current work, 100% first thing I do is stalk them on the socials :))
Most of my interaction on facebook is within private groups, my own profile is fairly inactive and quite safe I think. I don't tend to make political statements or share my views. Mostly photos of my dogs, bikes, cars.

Me too! It's a great way to get a feel for what a person is like (and how well they lock down their social media!).
FB and that is a great tool, if used properly. You won't get anything besides car porn, dad jokes and cat photos on my feed!
Made it to 2nd round of interviews. Must have done something right, else they just want to know more about the car.
Did you tell them it's a lunchtime project?

Sad but true!
Not unfixable though - be a shame to just let it peter out.
Seems to get a flurry of new sign ups now and again, but I've had to wait days for a reply sometimes. Imagine a new user signs up all excited, introduced themselves and gets not reply, it's unlikely they'll visit more than 2 or 3 times.
Unfortunately true - I'm going to have to dust down 'Google Translate' again.
Did you get the job Eddy?

Thanks for asking. but there was a bit of a crappy outcome, but I might yet turn things around.
I was told there was only 2 of us made it to round 2, and the other guy hadn't impressed them so there's on one else in the running and they really liked me.... but, at the 11th hour the guy that had interviewed me who would essentially be my line manager had handed in his notice. So they had to have internal talks and they decided to put things on hold and prioritise recruiting for the more senior role he had. And once filled they may come back to me - but then again they might find someone with a slightly different skill set which might then knock me out of the running again.
I pondered this for a couple of days and then went back to the recruitment place and kind of told them I'm good for the senior role so happy to step up and take that on. A few questions went back and forward to the company and they seemed to be going for it, but the boss higher up is currently on holiday and he'll get final say so waiting to hear back, hopefully I'll hear something this week.
If I get it that will mean I've basically talked myself into a promotion before even getting a job offer :-D
Meanwhile things seem to be picking up, so if this one doesn't happen (although I hope it does) I've had another 1st round interview last week that seemed to go ok, and have another this week. And am talking to recruiters about new opportunities every few days so something will come up.
FIngers Crossed!
Do hope it pulls off for you! I do hate it when things like this happen - the number of jobs I hear of when people go for them, perform well and then the panel re-evaluate if they need to fill the role at all! You don't care so much when you're employed and have that safety net but so gutting on so many levels to get so far, like the place, do a good interview, be a good fit etc....And then they change their mind! Best of luck with it and hope it goes your way
best of luck

Happy to give an update to this situation...
After what seems like an age and somewhere in the region of 20+ interviews I've finally bagged a job offer.
So after 10 and a half years in my current role on Monday just gone I finally handed in my notice. I don't leave till December 17th and don't start the new role till Jan 4th.
Congratulations.
Goes to show that the only place where success comes before work is in the dictionary.
Congrats mate!
Nice break you have over christmas too.
Does this mean you have enough time tom completely finish the golf now?
Might even be done before then. Still don't really 'need' it and just spent an epic amount of money on the mk5 otherwise I might had been pushing for the MK2 to be MOTed this month. Need to space it out a bit now so maybe next month.
Congrats on the new job. I was at my previous place for 12 years and it was a bit daunting starting again else where (2 years ago now). However when I got there I realised it was just the same as my last place on relationship building but a bit more intense in the beginning. It was also nice not having to still do all things you would have been invovled in over the last decade and being able to focus on the actual job you applied for.
Just seeing this... yes, congratulations and well deserved for sticking at it.
Excellent news - well done!
Hope you enjoy the new role and post!
Of course if it's more money then it must mean more money to spend on the Golfs...
Thanks guys, it's more money so I'm thinking a new motorbike might be in order come spring time. Although I should probably wait till I pass the 6 month probation so maybe summer. ;-)
