New Members Say Hi! / Re: Hey all, new member needing help
Nowadays you need to think about what condition your car is in.
There are plenty others out there that look great on the surface, but could end up costing a fortune in welding repairs.
Depending on where you skills are, you might be better off sticking with what you have and swapping engines/spec until you're happy.

Members' Cars / Re: Cope's GTI
Only issue I have is I've changed my rear hubs for Polo Gti items, which I believe are a little thicker, so can no longer rely on them making the string completely parallel with the car, I was thinking about trying to find the exact centre of the car font and rear, then do it off of that.

Mk2 Golf Chat / Re: What's in my engine block?
I believe that is the blanking plate for the distributor that is used on the 8v variant of the engine.
You should be safe to pop it off and clean it up.
Thanks
Dave

Also, can you give me a bit more info on the string method with the axle stands on one side?
I've never been able to do it and always end up going to the local garage,

Engine & Gearbox / Re: Testing the water
I hear that the 02S is pretty much a straight swap for a mk2 and as such, usually demand quite a high price.
As for the fuel tank, that will definitely not fit.
The extra 15 litres are on the top of the tank as the Corrado boot floor comes higher up.
I tried using one for a VR6 conversion once and the tank was so big, the fuel filler stopped about 10cm below the hole in the side of the car!

Mk2 Golf Chat / Re: Sun visor retrim
I need to get a replacement headliner but I like the original design so it means buying the fabric from Heritage andgetting it stuck on a glassfibre shell. It won't be cheap, hence it's on the back-burner !
Yeah, whatever, you do, don't use the original headliner, I've tried twice now with various glues etc, longest it's lasted is two years.
The liner is just dissolving at this point and taking the glue with it.

Engine & Gearbox / Re: Engine Shutdown when warming up
It's not smart enough to shut down if there's low oil pressure.
Oil, water temp and battery lights all come up if the engine stops and the key is still in the ignition position.

Engine & Gearbox / Re: Engine Shutdown when warming up
If the engine is shutting down after only a few minutes, it could be that it is coming off it's cold start cycle (where it adds more fuel in) and then the mixture isn't right to continue running.
Can you keep the engine running if you push the accelerator a little?
If so, see if you can take it somewhere to get the carb mixture set up.

Engine & Gearbox / Re: Heavy clutch
I know, I'd have preferred to keep my VW stamped one too, but apparently the actual paint on the inside of the cap helps seal the box.
