Hi, all i'm relatively new to the classics scene and I've recently got a mk2 1.6 auto with the original pierburg 2E2 Carb but when I got it the carb was in the passenger footwell lol, i've since refitted it and got the vacuum lines connected as I think they should be but there is another cable with a large bolt fitting at the end and a thin tightly wound spring which comes out of the firewall near the green vacuum tank and I can't for the life of me find where it should go, but it certainly looks important!
You should be getting 12 volts at the coil. I'm not sure which terminal though, should be the positive one. Check your fuses, and I'd recommend having a look at the wiring diagram in the haynes manual. I've used it a few times and its very helpful. You may have a broken wire.
Thanks very much, I have the haynes manual for it so i will find that wiring diagram
I recently got an '89 1.6 as a project and im stumped.
I hasnt been on the road for 3 years but it seems a previous owner has launched the parts cannon at it to no avail. It has a new ignition coil, HT Leads, Dizzy and I've fitted new plugs and battery myself recently.
I took the king lead out to check if that was even getting spark in the first place which it wasnt so i traced back to the coil and terminals 1 and 15. I used a multimeter at Terminal 1 which gave nothing and Terminal 15 gave a reading of 0,5 mV when cranking it, I know a multimeter isnt the best for this particular test and a test light would be better, but its all I had at the time.
I've seen a lot of talk about the TCI which I havent checed yet, so could it be that which is fried? or am I missing steps or looking in the wrong place.
A point in the right direction or at least to another thread on here with some form of guide would be great!
I Bought myself a 1.6 Auto as a bit of an affordable dream car as I've always liked the older boxy Golfs but it sure will be a mini project to get up and running so I'll be lurking a lot in the coming weeks to see what I can Learn!
