Everything turns fine atm just wont pick up oil for whatever reason. Ive been tied up on other stuff the last couple of weeks so il open it all up again and take the pump off. I think ill just order the replacement pump from heritage and replace it. I guess it cant hurt to have a new pump on even if thats not the issue but hopefully its just bad timing and the pumps given up the goat maybe?
So ive taken off the sump to inspect and it wll looks the same but what was a little strange was that when I tapped the grill inside it blipped a little and then leaked more oil so thinking maybe an air block of somesort?
Ps the cranking slows as if its struggling due to friction/resistance if that makes sense so decided to inspect.
Would another idea be that maybe the system has drained completely while it was stood and when I turned it over fist time it siphoned out the last bit of oil from the system and caused an air block maybe?
Going to try and fill the oil filter up with oil and crank it without the dizzy king lead on to see if it gets it circulating. Clutching at straws here 😫
So ive just done what you said and the engine is truning over but then slows down as if there is resistance so i darent try much longer.
I found a video by ChrisFix on youtube which suggested spraying some 'fogging oil' into the spark plug slots to lubricate the cylinders? Not sure if this is a possibility maybe?
The engine is turning freely with little resistance which is great news.
Yeh @t2000 its weird. The little.metal ring was in there too which was more concerning but a quick goole and it looks like a rocker cover spacer maybe? Apparently does happen if someone has replaced the rocker cover before and dropped one in 😫
Going to try and do what you said @monkey and maybe put more oil in and try it without the dizzy lead attached so it wont start and see if that works.
I suppose its been left to drip dry for a few days and as such the level needs to be 'too high' on the dipstick markers for it to pick up and recirculate right?
Thanks both really appreciate the reply and the help. @Monkey the engine has been solid for the last 5 years but hardly gets used nowadays tbh. I'll go through the steps and update. In the meantime I've created a link to the pictures I took of the stuff in the Sump and from underneath which may give a bit more context.
Hi All, I went to replace my leaky sump gasket and noticed the sum had lots of fairly large bits of god knows what in the bottom and was really rough itself, so decided to change it for a new one from Heritage. It took a few days to arrive which meant the car was 'sumpless' for almost a week in the garage but I thought, as I would be putting plenty of oil in anyway, this wouldn't be too much of an issue.
After replacing it all (and filling with oil of course) it was really noisy when started. I though id leave it idling to get the oil distributed and then a gentle drive of about 200m down the road and back.
When I got back the oil buzzer came on so I went to put it back in the garage to inslect and the engine cut out.
I haven't started it again since as Im scared somethings really badly wrong. Please can someone give me a little advice on what to do next?
Hi All. When I bought my car the previous owner told me the service history was lost by the guy before him etc etc etc. Just thought I'd as if anyone on here recognises the car at all as everything seems to be very original including the reg which is quite memorable if you have ever owned it? H10ELY? Anyone know it at all?
I've got a 'luxury' one from Halfords after I had my paint done, to keep the workshop cats from scratching the paint. Was about £60, felt lined breathable, works a treat.
I have had 2 of these now and both have allowed water through meaning the felt lining inside and therefore the roof of the car was wet when I took them off? Apparently these are great but I have decided it is best to leave it off than it is to hold water against the car. I definitely made sure the car was bone dry before putting it on so I'm not sure why the 2 that I have had have been useless? 🤔
I had exactly the same issues with 2 halfords one after reading loads of positive reviews. My mate swears by the stormforce ones but ive never used one. Apparently the only exterior car cover you should ever buy according to him 🤷♂️

I have fitted a new throttle cable previously so I dont think its that. Its weird, sometimes it does and sonetimes ut doesn't but its really annoying. I'll check the vac lines. Does anyone have a vac line diagram thing (not sure what to call it, like a wiring diagram to show where they are supposed to go) just because I have a sneaking feeling theyr not right 🤔
Hi All, My Mk2 GTI 8v's idle isnt always where it needs to be. Basically the revs raise to anywhere between 1500 and around 2200 and sit there but when I tap the throttle it drops back down to normal. At first I thought it was the Idle Control Valve so I replaced it with a new part and this made it worse! The revs went to 2500 and when I tapped/blipped the throttle it stayed at the higher mark of around 3500! I have put the old ICV back on now and its back to its old tricks. Does anyone have any ideas please? Thanks in advance.
