Mk2 Golf Chat / Re: Make a few quid?
not bad at all £160 min charge, although i'm more interested in the cost of insuring someone else to drive it fully comp for a day...what would terms be on that,   would be happy to do chauffeuring part... done a couple of weddings locally in my red mk1 sportline. for 80£ plus drink... lol

I'm sure I added mine on there before but never showed up..I put sportline and mk2 as backup car. Even have agreed with local taxi to try do chauffeur to airport/ hotel to do a deal.. in case any car breakdown.

Mk2 Golf/Jetta Sales / Re: Mk 2 GTI Golf for sale Hertfordshire
Hi sounds good, any pictures, or reg checker showing mots..etc.
i don't do HPI checks, maybe i should but since working in a bodyshop i know many accidents and repairs are unreported so would not show up.

on mk1 owners site i sold this, and put a onedrive link to mots, and works i'd carried out, and because i didn't want any come back i explained that needed shocks/coilovers replacing and more TLC.

Mk2 Golf Chat / Re: Car History and milage verification
Maybe share full picture of car and numberplate, then some previous owners may know some history. and if its only done 8k miles in 36 years can only assume it totally mint.   my 88 plate has limited mot history , only since i purchased it to honest....... so what was it doing before me....https://www.regit.cars/car/f413jtm/interested. i know a previous owner contacted me via old forum...

Members' Cars / my atlas grey small bumper 16ver
Well i guess i'd better add a thread here...
bought the car almost 3 yrs ago..
Came with borbet alloys(venom look)
Leaking sunroof seal.
Some minor leaks water.
some noisy exhaust hangers.

1st month was replace sunroof seals and add brighter headlights. Swap the alloys to something else...lol Porsche black teledials.
rear caliper bolts came out n/s rear wheel not great but lucky only minor damage.

3/4th month engine cut out, on way to have service. Off with cambelt, head gasket changed, both fuel pumps changed, ignition module, distributor changed,

6th month to 2 yrs yes really, paint, paint correction, new tailgate, bbs RA, and sebrings bought and refurbed, heater foam replaced, starter and alternator changed.

2-3 yrs wheels swapped to bbs rms. head unit changed to another late 90s model with cd changer. no aux or bluetooth. New grill and spots. June 2019 new fuel pump external, accumulator, hoses. injector seals,

After 6months waiting for that section to be paint repaired I gave up.. figure if hide the parts from the salt then should reduce chances of happening again. The tailgate when first bought was made from cardboard and filler. Pulled vinyl sticker off and glass nearly fell out.
Also put wind/rain deflectors on front door. To try stop it baking me alive... I miss climate control

weekend job, replace and hopefully make last a bit longer. 1 securing point in plastic broken but hopefully will be fine.. new accumulator, new filter ,new pump and new 8mm fuel hose

now i am sure i am repeating some ones advice, but if you have similar issue to me.... remove the power strips from pump and tighten the non return valve fully, as comes only hand tight. I'm sure that is 75% of issue i had. the NR valve kept leaking and all other parts tight.
On the pump mounting bolts i would suggest grinding nuts off as the metal has expanded with rust, and plastics are pressured in them locations, so movement breaks them.

New pipes came from www.classic-vw.co.uk, pump too, accumulator is available from mark, i got mine elsewhere.
Having rebuilt this part and seeing small weeps i've also pleaded with mrs so that i can invest in alloy unit.... as i dont think having fuel leaks is fun.
Mark will have one or two instock in the near future, and is looking at making a kit comprising of the full set up.. ready to mount on original frame.

Well done 500miles in mk2 since sorted fuel pump issues and leaks, now no longer smell of fuel or no leaks visable...
My alloy pump housing arrived, looks ace.. although trail fitting my old pump shows does not fit, so will have to check when time comes, the hole is made for 60mm pumps, but with filter housing the clearance was not big enough for mine. So if all else fails ill have to trail fit my pump, and order another.

did a mileage and mpg check, now 240miles of motorway and A roads, just over 4.5 hours driving i got 45mpg.. thats filling to brim and then again back to the brim, although different petrol station.

just fitted new front door window scrapers.... to reduce noise and water entering door cavity.

mark has the parts instock. https://www.classic-vw.co.uk/mk2-golf-f ... 1354-p.asp0 x

Check with Dale, he had the alloy housing and had some issues fitting but I think it was resolved by getting the O-ring fitted in the right order.

Definitely not the O ring on this, its the actual mesh strainer from pump i removed last week does not fit in the house recess. The pump and o ring will go in with out the mesh... could be that its another non oem issue, and maybe the pump thats installed on the car at the moment will fit when i get round to checking.... iv'e spoken to the manufacturer they say was made for OEM.....Bosch... so thats their answer, try a Bosch. Now i also contacted mark at classic-vw.co.uk as he's stocking these, and he's currently checking that the pumps he's got in stock fit. So alls not lost.
My thoughts are that plastic housing is Original, and OEM stuff fitted, and for past 3 yrs non OEM pump fitted too, so given the alloy housing is supposed to be made OEM size then why not the non OEM pump fit, its a good 1mm out of spec. In emergency could run with out strainer.. but then that's defeating the point.

Mark says his HI pumps and strainers fit.... so bare that in mind that could be fuel housing, actuator, hose and pump to change, thats why its 700£ as set from Mark, that's proven to fit.

well yesterday i took the plastic fuel housing off, and tried the new alloy one, would you believe it the new/last fitted fuel pump also did not fit...just my luck 2 different pumps and both similar issues. i took the strainer off, and just fitted with the o ring. cars running and no leaks thus far. will get a HI pump from mark later, maybe next service.
Now i found some steering wheels and had mark get them retrimmed, now do i use my finders discount and get 1 back.....? i do like to raddo 1......
https://www.classic-vw.co.uk/steering-wheels-732-c.asp feel free to ask him for kennys discount.. lol.....probably increase price 10%

The new pump and accumulator etc.. must have cost you a few bob; cheapest I could find a new accumulator was £160, but luckily mine was salvageable!

BIT of an update, the foams on the dash vents have come unstuck, no big job, but will do on a dry day, passenger side window motor seems to have seized, could be due to the last 2months of rain.. so again when a dry day comes it will be off with cards and see if can refurbish or change the mechanism . The battery seems to not like the cold either, its 2 yrs old and struggling to hold charge for more than 7days if not driven. So i invested in small booster from china/Amazon YABER Car Jump Starter, does start the car from dead, 2 times from a single charge....so my plan is to keep 1 in the car and trickle charge it via cig lighter when driving.

Sebrings are one of my favourite Mk2 wheels

Yes I wasnt sure at first but after getting a set and refurbing I'm happy with way they look on car. The bbs rm 012 I just sold was ok, I put on in the summer but to be honest I think the cash better spent on another project.

Still driving around in mk2, still it's got its little issues. Runs ok,starts badly almost like flat battery, this issue has been ongoing since I bought it,changed battery 2 times, starter and alternator, cleaned and refreshed earths. Will start but sometimes gets heart jumping when sat in petrol station thinking do I have to push to 1 side..

will update pictures later

Mk2 Golf Chat / Re: New . Annoying problems
As above check cables, if you can whilst at it wd40 the linkages and drive pins for wipers this helps reduce load /amp required to operate.

My rear wiper does what it wants, its on third relay..in my ownership. sometimes stops when stalk put in off position, sometimes continues until i turn live off... on the car.. sometimes runs as should.
