Yeah, at this point, I think a fresh pump is your best bet, the one in there is going to be 30+ years old now. If the sump is off, it's a super easy job to do.

Hmm, could possibly be a battery issue? Do you think the addition of the jump leads definitely fixed it, or just allowed you to turn it over long enough to fire?

Ok so i've got the coolant temp sensor and blue temp sender on order and will replace them when they're in. The past few days it's started absolutely fine, though still runs a little rough until it's up to temp.
This evening i've gone to move the car, and it's just turning over and won't start at all. A couple of times it grumbled, definitely tried to start but just sat turning over forever. Hooked up the jump leads and it started. Now i'm even more stumped. Could i have a wiring problem somewhere maybe?

Right people, since solving my last wiring issue. ive now picked up a whole new one, just for fun
My rev counter has stopped working, initially i thought i was going to get lucky as a wire had fallen of the coil. The car also failed to run. i came back to the car today. Started an idled lovely this time, though i started it with the blue plug detached, not sure why but just did. now plugged in still fine, but the whole thing ran like a dog midweek, failed to even run when i tried Friday. but since ok
But during this time, the rev counter is failing to work, the wire to pin KL1 on the white plug seems to work just fine. Also volt testing it while running i get voltage drop on the multi meter, which is the opposite of how i thought it would work, but it shows power is there. Now when i do a continuity test from the pin to the other end of the track on board i get nothing, i assume this is my issue.
But there is no sign of any damage, and it worked when i had the wiring issue previous to this

Everything turns fine atm just wont pick up oil for whatever reason. Ive been tied up on other stuff the last couple of weeks so il open it all up again and take the pump off. I think ill just order the replacement pump from heritage and replace it. I guess it cant hurt to have a new pump on even if thats not the issue but hopefully its just bad timing and the pumps given up the goat maybe?
As above, good luck with the treatments for your son and that will be a great project to look forward to when he's back on his feet. My lad is only 5, but I hope one day, he'll want to do a project too!

Assuming you're in the UK, you won't have an O2 sensor. They only put them in some European model back then for emission control. The blue temp sender test does suggest it's feeding back a signal, whether it's the right signal, we can't be sure. If it's not too expensive, I'd swap it out, just in case.

Right my problems are solved, in case anyone has similar issue,
After actually spending a couple of hours digging deeper, my whole dash loom would trigger the wipers, had popped a few fuses, which i wasnt aware off. anyway the dash board main ground wire. some how ended up being placed on one of the g block pins on the fusebook. now located correctly. The issues i asked about have been resolved including the additional findings.

after a small amount of time this evening, i kinda get washers working, but i have to remove the lower earth pin on the wiper stalk, then all is fine, but of course thats not a good thing to leave off. surely someone here knows something
