What parts can i use for tuning

Hello there, just bought golf mk2 for his looks and because he is easy car to learn on him how to work on cars, I pretty much dont know anything about cars but love all of it and want tu learn on this but I have a problem I bought 1.6 diesel engine and i want to do little bit tuning not visual but add to it like race intake and intercooler make from 1.6 turbo diesel not just diesel and things like this, problem is almost all parts on golf mk2 is for 1.8 GTI so I want to ask if I can use those parts on my 1.6 diesel like there shouldnt be sny difference except of like its petrol and have more HP/kW.
