Mk2 Golf Chat / Mk2 golf 8v gti crank no start
Hi all,

A couple of weeks ago I was getting ready to take my 1988 mk2 8v GTI to a car show. I’ve had the car 3 years and never had any issues with it. I’d left the radio on and the battery was dead so I jump started it and then charged the battery overnight.
The next morning I took off to the car show and got 10 minutes down the road when the car died. It initially fired up again but died again 2 minutes later. Since then it cranks but won’t start.
The fuel pump is still priming and it’s getting fuel. I took the king lead off the dizzy and put it beside an earth point. It’s only getting one spark when I stop cranking and turn the key off.
I’ve tried a new ignition coil which hasn’t changed anything.
Any other tips on other options to try?

Thanks

Wheels, Brakes & Tyres / Re: Handbrake not working on one side
Thanks for the replies. I have ordered a new rear caliper and will fit it sometime next week. I will update once I have this done. Hopefully that fixes it and I can get the car on the road after 7 years.

Wheels, Brakes & Tyres / Handbrake not working on one side
The dreaded rear brake struggle.

My 1988 1.8 8v had it's first MOT after being in storage for 7 years. It only failed on one thing. The handbrake wasn't catching enough on the drivers side. I have since had the caliper off and the arm the handbrake cable attaches to is moving freely. I've tried tightening up the cable and I have got it that the rear drivers side wheel turns slightly with extreme force turning the wheel by hand. But the passenger side doesn't turn at all.
Is this most likely a caliper problem or possibly a stretched cable?

Thanks.
