Mk2 Golf Chat / Re: Stop the Leak! Please.
Just confirming that the car is now water-tight.

The membranes did have minor leaks, but I guess over time it all adds up. The other source of water ingress was through some worn out gromits in the scuttle area. Car is bone dry inside now.

Thanks for all your help folks!

Suspension & Steering / Momo Steering Wheel Boss Woes - please help
Hey folks,

I bought my 89 Mk2 Gti years ago and it came with a Momo steering wheel fitted, the boss used was for a small spline Mk2. The previous owner had removed the small>large spline adaptor in order to fit it. Ok cool.

I added the adaptor back in and fitted an original steering wheel maybe 5 years ago.

Last week I picked up a Momo Master steering wheel and figured I could just use the old Momo boss that I had in the shed, and so I removed the small>large spline adaptor again, and now when I have fitted the boss, the silver horn ring and base of the boss in general is making contact with the steering column housing, meaning that the horn is constantly on.

Now, I thought perhaps I'm meant to use a small spacer between the back of the boss and the steering column, but there isn't a flat surface for the spacer to butt up against. The column does the following: Threads>Splines>taper

So the only option would be to fit some sort of tapered spacer, which makes no sense.

Am I missing something? Would love some help. Thanks in advance!

Mk2 Golf Chat / Stop the Leak! Please.
Hey folks,

Hopefully someone can help me. I'm at my absolute wits-end with my MK2 leaking.

The car has to be parked with the nose facing slightly down hill, with the drivers door closest to the kerb (which also means the camber of the road means the drivers side is lower than the passengers.

The passenger door seal is leaking at the front. The seal is perfect, the drain holes in the door are clear, the vapour barrier is sealed water-tight (even though it looks crap) the water is just pooling at the point pictured, entering the car and soaking the passenger side footwell. What can I do?

New Members Say Hi! / Hello from Bristol!
Hey folks,

New member here, coming back to VWs after a long hiatus of living in London and riding a bicycle.

I have been working on my 89 8v Gti for the last couple of years whilst it's been in storage. It's now in mint and totally standard condition, and now the fun is about to start. I've picked up some RMs and a few other OEM+ upgrades. I'll be moving to Bristol from London on July 1st, and bringing the Golf out of storage.

I need to find insurance for the car, so if anyone has suggestions for a slightly modified mk2, I'm all ears!

Also interested in coming along to any shows or meets that happen around Bristol.
