Members' Cars / Re: 1984 GTI

I think she probably misses your level of service Lawrence! Hope to see you at the national meet.

Mk2 Golf Chat / Re: Early front engine mount.
Hi, afraid to say they are different mounts, although both front, central of engine they have different brace brackets and bushes, seem to recall the bush on the mk1 was held in place by tension between the male and female bracket whilst the 84 mk2’s were held in place by an inner bush plus mounting bracket which bolted into a retaining bracket, so more of a complicated design.

Hope helps

Mk2 Golf Chat / GTI Engineering memorabilia
Just an FYI, I’m thinning out my collection of GTI Engineering memorabilia that I’ve collected over the last 25 years. Including a couple of genuine steering wheels (currently on EBay 6611lawrence) brochures, press releases and maybe an unused GTI engineering VIN plate plus rear tailgate badge.

Anyway, this certainly isn’t meant to be a sales pitch more FYI in case any members are looking that elusive piece. And of course I’ll try and make the prices as attractive as poss for club members.

If I can help just shout.

Thanks,
Lawrence

Mk2 Parts for Sale & Breaking / X2 GTI engineering steering wheels available
Hi Guys, I’m selling a couple of genuine GTI Engineering steering wheels that I’ve had for a few years. I’m only doing a quick FYI post, please see EBay for listings (I’m 6611lawrence).

Feel free to message me if interested and let’s see if we can sort something out.

Also…I’m thinning out my collection of GTI Engineering memorabilia (feel free to message me as I’ve got genuine and  "uncommon"  GTI Engineering parts from steering wheels, new VIN plate, new rear tailgate badge (yes both genuine!,) and various brochure and press releases that I’ve collected over the last 25 years).

Members' Cars / Re: Sam’s 84’ Mars Red GTI - Factory RHD Wolfsburg Import
Yep you’re probably right. I’d gladly attach a couple of pics but I can’t see an attach button on my i phone to post snaps (you can tell I’m not an avid poster lol) 🤷‍♂️Any tips anyone?

In order to post pictures on here I use a site called imgbb.com

I upload on my account which is sorted via album and use “BB CODE FULL LINKED” - copy and paste, which then provides a picture once posted.
I’ve struggled to post pics but I’ve added a link below so fingers crossed....
Today was the first time I’ve turned her over since last year and she started on the first turn of the key 👍

Good to see another 84 GTI resurface.

What is interesting is mine was made on 17th May 84 (Mars red too) so just 1 day out from yours....The VIN plate on mine is at the bottom of the inner wing by the metering head whereas yours is positioned by the ECU, interesting.

Good luck with your plans and always good to start with a sound base which you’ve clearly got with your car.
