Many thanks to OP for the detailed guide. I was looking up the black diamond page and it states that from 88 onwards, 8v GTI seem to have 256mm discs. Is this an error? Link attached here: http://www.blackdiamondperformance.com/brakes_volkswagen.htm

Yes this is 100% an error.

The only thing that changed on later spec 8v is the hole in the steering knuckle was made larger to take a larger bottom ball joint. It think it went from 17 to 19mm diameter.
The caliper bracket on ALL 8v GTIs is in integral part of the steering knuckle and all have 239mm discs.

There is a misconception that later 8v had the same 16v brake set up. Where the caliper carrier is a separate part that bolts onto the steering knuckle. I have no idea where this came from, it's just plain hearsay.

It's because of this separate carrier that the 16v hubs are so versatile and can be used with larger brakes but bolting on the carrier with a different offset to move the calliper outwards.

Thank you very much Eddy for the explanation and added insight on the larger bottom ball joint!

Looking For My Old Mk2 / Re: F749 HGE
Hi Eddy,

Thank you very much again! The photo is from the person I bought in March. Using this photo and search using google, I found two other photos which are definitely from an older sale advert. I am not sure how to attach images here.

I had picked it up from a person who had the car for just under 3 weeks and he had no contact or info of the previous owner. Having looking up the MOT records on DVLA, it was tested at Kilmarnock (south of Glasgow) from 2019 to 2022 where it failed every year. Spent around almost 2000 to get it MOT ready on rust and wiring. Hopefully goes well! The link you provided had a car sale advert notice, but it seems cazana doesn't exist anymore unfortunately.

Technical / Re: BBS body kit compatibility
Thank you very much for your quick reply Eddy! This is very helpful. The boxy rear arches is what I am mainly concerned about but I will probably have to take the arch and test it on the car most likely. If it doesn't fit, the votex kit on the 88' which I never saw looks gorgeous and those lovely headlamp washers to top it off!

Technical / BBS body kit compatibility
Hi everyone,

I have a 4 door 1989 small bumper golf gti. I have never come across a 4 door with a bbs body kit and wanted to try it. Would I have any issues fitting it on the 4/5 door model?

Thanks!

Got it as a project car with no paperwork. Curious about its history.
