Yeah I agree it was on the big bumper models. I had to source a blanking grommet when I bought a replacement door from heritage parts as my small bumper 89 model didn't have the bar fitted.

Have you tried shorting out the fan switch to see if the fan kicks in?

Another update. I got some new rear speakers for Christmas which I fitted in Jan 21.

They did do some repairs to my Golf along with welding new parts.
