Does it slow down if you lift the pedal? If it does it could be a sticky pedal or worn throttle cable.

Try lifting the door when its slightly ajar you should see where the play is.

I would agree with the sensor being the problem. Access through the left front wheel arch.

I often have a look on ebay and note an awful lot of what I think are overpriced parts go off unsold. Wishful thinking on the part of sellers.
