Rough idle.

Hi, I have a ‘91 Driver with the 1.6 RF engine and the Pierburg/Solex 2E2 carb. The car has a manual choke, but after doing some digging it looks like it was originally an automatic choke. It starts and runs well, but splutters at very low gentle revs, it’s fine if acceleration is medium or hard, but it idles unevenly and smells strongly of petrol. Any input greatly appreciated.

Check
any vacuum lines,
The carb base/mount as these split.
Fuel filter and lines.
