If you wanna stop well with out going nuts with 4 pot brakes etc, you can do a lot worse than the following...
16v Brake Servo and Master Cylinder..
There no point in having huge brakes if you can't push the fluid to them effectively. If you don't have a 16v master cylinder (22mm) get one, makes a big difference.
280mm Front Brakes...
If you don't have a late 16v, you'll need to change your hubs for this. Most people think it's only late valvers wich will do the job, but passat ones will work just as well. Get some passat hubs (wich come with 256mm brakes on as standard) and put a set of G60/VR6 calipers/carriers on (they bolt straight up). Then (if you want to keep 4 stud) buy some G60 discs and pads(Golf or Corrado).
I've since found out that you can use most mk3 tdi and caddy sdi hubs from that era.
Goodridge Hoses...
Braided hoses stop the rubber brake lines from expanding under heavy braking and thus reducing breaking efficiency.
DOT 5.1 Fluid
If you boil your fluid, you'll loose you pedal, and your brakes! Dot 5.1 has a much higher boiling point than normal fluid. You have to change it every 2 years, but then again, you're supposed to change normal fluid every 3.
When dealing with brake parts, always buy new where you can afford, they're the most important parts of your car. :wink:
