It'll show whether it's still taxed or has a current MOT, and the MOT history shows the mileage and any advisories over the years, which can tell you if it's still on the road. If it's been SORNed or has no recent MOT, it might be sitting in a shed somewhere or have been scrapped.You could also try the 16v Golf groups on Facebook and the Mk2 Golf Owners Club Facebook page, as people there are quite good at tracking down old cars by reg. It's also worth searching the plate on Google images and old Pistonheads or eBay listings, as past sales sometimes turn up photos and a trail to the last owner.Out of interest, what was it like when you had it the first time?
