Yeah, at this point, I think a fresh pump is your best bet, the one in there is going to be 30+ years old now.
If the sump is off, it's a super easy job to do.

Hi All, just a quick update. It is now back up and running well. Turns out I needed to re-prime the new pump 🤦🏻‍♂️
I thought I had but obviously not comprehensively enough. The old pump must have been weak and on its way out but now it has new pump, new sump and gasket. And a nice new oil change. Running sweet as a nut.

Tha ks for the help fellas 👊

So one way to check the pump is to pull the dizzy out and manually drive the pump (as the dizzy also turns the pump drive shaft).
I've primed one before by sticking a drill on an adaptor (can't remember exactly what type, but have a feeling a large flat head will do the trick) and spinning it up until I could see oil getting everywhere, a good way to do this is pull the head oil temp sensor and wait for it to come out.

That being said, oil pumps aren't expensive and while they're still available, you may as well chuck one on for piece of mind.
