Hello World (tdi'd content here) September 12, 2026, 09:01:59 PM Hello all I thought I'd joined many years ago but couldnt trace an account so here goes.....longterm owner and currently have a few old photo from ~ 10 years ago, the blue B3 td is now spares as panels are unobtanium, the red B3 tdi'd is in need of tlc and the golf tdi'd is still on daily duties!not shown is my '95 t4 tdi'd and '91 B3v tdi'd (both also red)I'm also a fan of vw's tdi engines, my t4 was converted from 1x 1900td to 1z 1900 tdi ~14 years ago using a 314000mile B4v donor and I was convinced, the mk2 was bought around the same time as a 1.8gl and within a month had surgery for aaz 1900 td with 02a gearbox / b4 hydro clutch pedalbox / mk3 golf tdi subframe / power steering and B4tdi f&r brakes, this lasted untill 10 years ago (august 2016) when a mk3 tdi donor was swapped in as I wanted cruise control the red 'g' plate B3v was already tdi converted when bought (aparently by TSR from mid 90's??) but it used audi 80 wiring overlaying the Passat loom and was not great I re-converted and made better with all B4tdi loom / engine & box and intercooler etc.7 years ago I gained a '91 B3v with the singlepoint injected 1800 engine, I had a donor B4v tdi in th yard so spliced them togther & drove it for a few years untill rot overtook the possibility of another mot so its getting stripped the mk2 having its first welding 2 years ago, what started as rear axle bushes became a whole new axle and welding to the back of the sills insde the wheelarches, think it was abut 37 years old then!as you can see I have a few cars, also too many projects whats in the future? pd time as the old ve tdi is showing its age!Rich. Re: Hello World (tdi'd content here) Reply #1 – September 23, 2026, 08:55:55 AM Welcome Rich, great intro post that! Proper rabbit hole of TDI swaps you've been down there, not many people can say they've converted a T4 and a B3 as well as the Golf. The AAZ to 1Z jump on the Mk2 makes sense for the cruise control alone, that's the one thing that always catches people out with the early digifant/mechanical PD... I mean TD setups.37 years old and only just needed a full rear axle - that's held up better than most! Sills round the arches going at that age isn't surprising though, that's usually where they get you first.Good luck with the PD swap, are you thinking ASZ/AJM or going down the ARL route? Look forward to seeing progress on here, welcome aboard.
Re: Hello World (tdi'd content here) Reply #2 – September 23, 2026, 10:47:01 PM the AAZ 1.9td engine just before (or during??) removalthe 1Z 1.9tdi electronically controlled engine going in (10 years and a month ago)knitting the loom, from ce2 into ce1and as it looked untill a month ago....last month it failed to start, classic immobiliser problems that snowballed into having another engine loom knitted togther (ce2 tdi loom to ce1 fusebox) this was done in the works carpark! earlier I mentioned cruise control, mecanical / cable speedometer supplying vss to the ecu controlled engine this was when first run, I'd bought a few mk1 Golf cc stalks from California so used one (also looked into mfa but never persued.....)ebay UK supplied a late ce1 Golf cc stalk (remember the days when parts were availavle?) - this was 10 Years ago back to present day......got bored with regular rear wheelbearing adjustments, time for 6N Polo rear discs / stubs and hubsbits everywhere!hub on stub on Golf BUT.......theres a problem the Golf rear disc caliper carrier uses a 25mm long bolt (M10x1.25mm pitch) to secure onto the stubaxle.the Polo setup uses a 35mm long bolt nobody seems to say this when talking about conversion.anyway, done now so... I've decided that my '92 B3v was beyond repair due to advanced rot so started creating more bits in my stash.luckily I have a 1989 B3v thats getting all the B3 love (admittedly slowly!) so most parts will stay :-)Rich. Re: Hello World (tdi'd content here) Reply #3 – September 24, 2026, 10:44:55 PM been busy today, had a few hours on the B3.....all that work just to get the bulkhead soundproofing and the 1Z / 02a gearbox combo with the B3 (ctually oe fit B4tdi) intercooler & pipework - long innit!not photographed are the other bits, b4tdi have the front mount crossmember with a'hydraulic' mount - an improvement over rubber especially with a heavy engine - this I'd fitted when converting the B3 from petrol to tdi.also the hydro-clutch conversion and 9" servo, and the tdi loom etc.another nicity is the hight-adjustable steering column, I'm looking into fitment in the Mk2 BUT the shroud will not match-up should have the pas rack and rear axle (disc) removed tomorow then raiding interior trim.Rich.
