Market for a 'Heritage' MK2?

Been doing a lot of searching recently for different bits'n'pieces, mainly mechanical / structural etc.

While I've not been in the market for a big chunk of it, it's quite surprising just what you can readily buy for your MK2, both the original stuff from the likes of VW-Classic-Parts and also from a whole range of reproduction manufacturers.

I haven't gone into it in any detail, it's just a thought, but we can't be far off the point where someone could theoretically build a 'new' MK2 in the same way that MGB's can be re-born from the remnants of a donor car.

Can't imagine it'd be easy or cheap, but if time and money were no object, why not!

Wonder if VW have pondered the idea, bound to have some interesting old tooling stashed away.
